Behind the lens.

Trey Walker, Director of Photography in Columbus, GA & Phenix City, AL.
Trey Walker is a Director of Photography based in Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, Alabama. He is a Phenix City native who got started the unglamorous way: at eighteen he took a camera out of his mother’s closet without asking. She saw the pictures and let him keep it. That camera turned into a college scholarship for sports photography, then a job shooting sports and weather at WTVM, where he learned to work fast, in bad light, with no second take.
He went independent after the station, built a name in adventure and astro-photography, and founded Trey Walker Studio in 2018. In 2020 he spent time on the set of a locally shot feature and came away certain: film is where he wanted to be. Since then he has shot features, national campaigns, and self-produced documentaries, and in 2024 he rebranded the studio as Mud Films, bringing in a bench of seasoned crew. He still shoots.
His camera work is naturalistic and physical. He builds shots around real people in real places rather than lighting a scene into something it isn’t, and he will carry a camera up a rope to get an angle that pays off on screen. As he puts it: “You can’t get this standing on the side of a railing. You gotta get in there.”
“I try to capture people as they are, creating shots based off telling real stories.”Trey Walker · The Local Columbus
